Dow Jones and S&P 500 futures fell for a fifth straight day on Wednesday after the Trump administration announced new sanctions on North Korea.
But investors were left to speculate whether the move would have any impact on the market.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) fell by 1.7% to 25,038.56.
The S&p 500 index .SPX lost 0.9% to 2,093.25.
