In the midst of all the free-agency frenzy in 2017, Chicago is reportedly still weighing a potential deal for quarterback Colin Kapernick.

If the Bears do make a move, it will be for an average contract, sources told ESPN.com.

The Bears’ interest in the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback appears to be genuine.

The team has the No. 1 pick in next year’s draft, and it has a top-10 pick in 2019.

If they do make the move, they could also be targeting a veteran quarterback in the draft.

Sources close to the situation told ESPN that the Bears have made a number of moves in free agency this off-season and are trying to land Kaepernick.

The sources said the Bears are looking to address the position, and that they’ve been in contact with several teams, including the 49ers and Ravens.

One potential deal could involve the Bears making Kaepernick a second-round pick, per a league source.

The Bears are also reportedly interested in signing veteran backup QB Jake Rudock, per sources.

Kaepernick is scheduled to make $10 million in base salary in 2017.

He would become a free agent at the end of the season, and the Bears would likely have to make a big move in the second round to make him their quarterback.

The Chicago Tribune reported last week that the team is interested in making a trade to acquire Kaepernick.

He is set to make more than $15 million in 2017 with $20 million guaranteed.

Kapernick was signed as a free-agents signing in 2012.

He played well in his first season with the 49er offense, completing 74.4 percent of his passes for 3,871 yards with 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

He also led the league in completion percentage and completion percentage with touchdowns.

The 49ers finished 11-5 in his debut season, but Kaepernick was injured early in the season and never made his NFL debut.
