Walmart has unveiled a chair that it says is “an economic development tool” for the world’s largest retailer.
“We want our customers to feel like they’re part of the solution,” said the company in a statement to The New York Times.
“It’s a chair for everyday use, not just for special occasions.”
The chair, which measures 1.25 metres by 1.2 metres and features an aluminium frame and wood grain, is made of wood that has been reclaimed from the local environment.
The chair was first revealed during the Walmart Super Bowl, and is expected to be launched at the retailer’s headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas, in January.
The company has already received requests for the chair and plans to launch it in the coming months.
The design features a curved edge, with a wood grain design that makes it easier to maneuver around, and a handle that is flexible enough to be used on the ground.
“Our goal is to create a chair, that’s designed for everyday uses and we’ve created this chair to meet that challenge,” said Tim Bittel, vice president of business development for Walmart Canada, at the company’s launch event in Bentonsville.
“You can move it from your chair to the ground or the sofa.”
Walmart’s “commodities” section The chair is made out of a recycled material that was created by the company using recycled materials from the Benton River, which runs through the company.
The reclaimed wood is then recycled through the process of milling it into products that can be sold as a result.
“These materials are not only environmentally friendly, they are a great value and we think this is a great opportunity for Walmart to add value to our community and to grow its business,” Bittels said.
“As an international retailer, we want to help our community be part of Walmart’s success.”
Walmart has also released a statement on the chair.
“Walmart has been committed to using recycled material and technology in the production of its products and we look forward to partnering with a number of partners to further our efforts to help create a more sustainable economy for everyone,” it said.
